Sound Waves

The sound of the ocean has a measurable effect on human health and wellbeing, bringing a sense of calm.

This year, the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week (14th-21st May 2018)  is focusing on how we can tackle stress and improve our mental wellbeing.

Together with and Adelphoi Music, we’ve created a digital seashell to bring the sound of the ocean to you wherever you might be. Share your experience and join the discussion through #OceanSoundWaves on Twitter!

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing you can benefit from the ocean by listening to the sound of the sea. Being close to the sea increases this effect. A walk on the beach is good for you, not just for the physical exercise involved.

“Research is increasingly highlighting the ocean as a therapeutic environment, capturing the human imagination and interrupting the momentum of daily life with its dynamic rhythms, sounds, scents and scenes. A key challenge now is how best to unlock such experiences for everyone, regardless of their sensory needs and priorities”.

Dr Sarah Bell, European Centre for Environment and Human Health
